On 29.05.2014, around 10:30, the alarm was raised by the Cluj County Salvamont-Salvaspeo Public Service (mountain rescue). We were called to take part in the search for a 65-year-old man who had gone missing on 24.05 from his home in the village of Moristi, Cojocna commune, Cluj County. Five CST volunteers with three CST dogs (Simona with Morris, Raul with Aka, Călin with Yupi, Tudor and Oana) responded to the call. Each of us let our bosses or clients know that we had to leave right away. We grabbed our gear and the dogs, got in the cars, and by 12:30 we reached the Cojocna Town Hall, where we were to meet the other mission participants (13 Salvamont members, 6 Jandarmeria (Gendarmerie) staff, one police officer and 4 members of the missing man's family).
The mission was coordinated by the head of the Cluj County Salvamont-Salvaspeo Public Service.
For 4 hours, we searched with our dogs the most likely areas identified together with the mission coordinator (roadside areas, an orchard, sections of hillside). Moving through the terrain was made harder, first by the torrential rain that started just as the mission began, and then by the very tall, dense vegetation. Even after the rain stopped it was no easier, since the vegetation was still soaked and the hot sun quickly evaporated the water, forming an unpleasant mist to breathe. Even so, no one complained, and the search continued until all the designated areas had been checked. At 17:00, the mission ended, to be resumed only if new information came in pointing to other areas to search.
