On 3 March, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the DSU (Department for Emergency Situations) held a ceremony awarding the "DSU Honour Emblem" to representatives of the DSU and staff from the structures under its coordination and operational coordination (IGSU – General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, IGAV – General Inspectorate for Aviation, SAJ – County Ambulance Service, UPU/CPU – Emergency Receiving Units, Salvamont – mountain rescue), as well as to international and non-governmental organisations, on the occasion of Civil Protection Day. During the ceremony, the Transylvania Search and Rescue Dogs Association was also decorated; together with Clubul Câinilor Utilitari (the Working Dogs Club) and Cainii SAR Gugulania, it has been collaborating with the DSU under a protocol since 2017.
The awards were given in appreciation of those whose efforts have benefited the entire integrated emergency system, with the ordinary citizen as the ultimate beneficiary.
Emergency situations in recent years have stood out for their complexity, intensity and dynamism, characteristics that have required everyone involved in helping others and saving lives to adapt quickly.
The situation generated by managing the influx of Ukrainian citizens arriving in our country from the conflict zone is one of the complex, large-scale actions relevant to 2022, which required a real, this time, test of the response procedures within the integrated system, involving all the institutions that are part of the National Emergency Situations Management System, together with support from the government, local authorities, civil society, international organisations, NGOs, etc.
The distinctions were presented by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Lucian Bode, and by the Secretary of State and head of the DSU, Dr. Raed Arafat, for outstanding service to Romania's emergency system.
